Robert Slaw was appointed as a Mahoning Township supervisor during the rescheduled board meetingThursday afternoon after the resignation of Supervisor Shawn Haggerty.

Haggerty handed in his letter of resignation from the board after moving out of the area last month.Following the resignation, Vice Chairman Franklin Ruch announced the three residents who submitted letters of interest in the vacancy for the position.Slaw, Myron Blahy and Alexander Prociuk expressed interest in filling the supervisor role, with Slaw being voted in."How was there already a letter of interest before I even knew about the resignation," Supervisor Brian Reeser asked.According to township Secretary-Treasurer Natalie Haggerty, the nominee was informed of the vacancy during a planning meeting."Just seems everyone already made up their mind before I even knew about it," said Reeser, who opposed the nomination.Slaw was appointed in a 3-1 vote and will be sworn in at the next planning commission meeting this month.Ruch read Haggerty's written comments to the board."It's been a true pleasure and privilege to have served," Ruch read."I'd like to wish you all the best," concluded Haggerty's correspondence. Haggerty had also served on the planning commission."We'd like to thank Shawn for his commitment to the board," Ruch said.The board received an extra three roadmaster applications since last month's meeting. The supervisors voted to place the applications on file before making a motion to switch the qualifications from a Class A only license to a Class A or B license.Ruch then made a motion to re-advertise in the Times News for a roadmaster.
