A man who was previously involved in a crash that led to the death of state Sen. James Rhoades pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in a separate case on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted a guilty plea from Thomas Patrick Senavitis, 53, of Lehighton and formerly of Effort, who was arrested on Nov. 26, 2016, along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.He was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in jail, a fine of $705, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on April 21 and serve it on consecutive three-day weekends.He must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.In 2010, Senavitis was cleared of the most serious charges in a crash that claimed the life of Rhoades.A Monroe county jury found Senavitis not guilty of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, and aggravated assault by vehicle.The jury found him guilty of DUI incapable of safe driving, DUI greater than 0.3 percent, and recklessly endangering another person.The charges stemmed from a head-on crash which occurred between vehicles driven by Senavitis and Sen. Rhoades at around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008, on Route 209 in Gilbert. The senator died 14 hours later in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. His wife, Mary Edith, and Senavitis were both critically injured.Senavitis' blood alcohol content, according to a police report, was 0.355 percent.President Judge Ronald E. Vican sentenced Senavitis to 23 months of probation and the 300 days he had already served in prison.- Ron Gower contributed to this report
