The Weatherly Library received a generous donation of approximately 1,400 books from Dr. Jack Tweedle on Saturday.

The donation came about after he read the will of his father, Austin Tweedle, to donate $100 to a minister in Weatherly.Through correspondence between Jack Tweedle and the Rev. Hueholt, he found out about the Weatherly Library and decided to donate his vast collection of books to the community his family has already done so much for.Jack’s son Russell Tweedle was present at the library to formally give them the donation of books, as well as to give a brief family history.Russell’s great grandfather James B. Tweedle was a Civil War medic. He served the country for many years.He was one of the first members of the Weatherly community who helped shape the area into what it is today.His son, Austin Tweedle, was a graduate of Weatherly Area High School. He served in World War II and was stationed in Europe.Jack Tweedle decided to keep the tradition of serving the Weatherly community alive and donated the books he has collected over the years to the library. He had a few words to say through his son Russell on Saturday.“Don’t be afraid to fail. For our young folks, make yourself necessary. Regarding the books in the library, please consider developing a speed reading ability. Utilizing the books, select a subject you like and expand on it as a major subject in college.”The Weatherly Area Community Library was excited to receive the donation. The grand opening was held in October for the new location.The library has many community activities, such as game nights, story time and members are looking to start a book club in the near future.An auction will be held on June 24 to benefit the library at Eurana Park.
