The Weissport Borough Council heard a lot of complaints on Monday evening from the public in regard to the dilapidated buildings, yards and porches of some residents in the area.

Several residents spoke during public comments about the poorly taken care of yards. Several properties on Prospect Street, according to resident Larry Dreher, are full of junk such as cars and televisions. Another resident complained that several people are living in a garage.One resident also complained about a house on White Street. She said that there are up to 10 people living in the house and complained of noise multiple times a day. The porch is full of garbage and the grass is unkempt.The council discussed the issues and are working to get new solicitor Greg Mousseau on the issues to enforce the beautification act in the borough.In other business, Roy Christman from the Lehighton Area Democratic Club brought up the doughboy World War I statue in the park. The club would like to help the borough get the statue repaired, as the face of the statue is worn down from weather and the original rifle from the statue is gone. He is looking into local businesses to repair the statue.The Weissport yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 27 in the park. The borough is looking for people to donate baked goods for the cake walk.The borough is also asking if anyone has items of historical relevance to Weissport to call the borough hall at 610-377-5606. The items will be used for the town celebration. All items will be kept indoors and will be watched at all times.Arland Moyer will be purchasing items to fix potholes in the area.
