With the May 31 certification of the results of the Pennsylvania primary election by Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes, the names of people elected delegates to the Democratic National Convention to be held in Philadelphia this summer have been announced by Marcel Groen, state party chairman.

They include seven people and one alternate who are committed to Hillary Clinton and six people who are committed to Bernie Sanders from the 11th and 17th congressional districts which include the Times News coverage area, namely all of Carbon and Schuylkill counties and parts of Northampton and Monroe counties.Green said the delegates have been selected based on the relative voting percentage per congressional district for each of the party's presidential candidates, and based on the votes received by each of the candidates for delegate respectively.He said the results have been calculated in accordance with the rules of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee, and the criteria set forth in the 2016 Delegate Selection Plan.Those results show 71 delegates and 12 alternate delegates who support Clinton have been named to the positions, as are 56 delegates who support Sanders.Locally, each candidate has three delegates from the 11th Congressional District, including Rogette Harris, Michele Sellitto and Alexander Reber for Clinton and Cheryl Marshall, Eric Graff and Dwayne Heisler for Sanders. In the 17th District, Clinton won four delegates, including William Courtright, Grace McGregor Kramer, Edward O'Brien and Jennifer Newland, as well as alternate Courtney Washo. Sanders' delegates from the district are Guy Anthony, John Ferguson and Susan Hall.Groen also said those who have not been elected as a district level delegate are automatically entered for consideration as an at-large delegate.At-large delegates will be decided at the June 11 meeting of the state committee to be held in Scranton.Carbon County Democratic Chairman Billy O'Gurek, who is also chairman of the Northeast Delegation that includes 11 counties, and the county's state committeewoman Carol Walbert are expected to participate in the at-large delegate selection process.
