Hearing on turkey farm continued

A zoning hearing for a variance and special exception request to expand a Walker Township property to include a turkey farm will resume at a later date.

That was the ruling of the township's zoning hearing board on Wednesday after it reviewed the request of Linwood Koch of 12 Koch Lane, Tamaqua.Dave Horst, township zoning officer, said Koch was in search of a special exception under a section of the township's zoning ordinance to expand the present use of the property located on the west side of Catawissa, as a turkey farm. The property is located in the Enhanced Agricultural Preservation zoning district. In addition, Koch also sought a variancefor expansion of a nonconforming use exceeding 25 percent of the area occupied by the use, as well as variances from the requirements of several sections.Horst said several residents spoke on the matter, including two of Koch's sons. However, he said the board feltmore information was needed in orderto make a determination. The hearing was continued until 7 p.m. Nov. 10 to allow the applicanttime to present additional evidence.
