Faith-Paced Walker's Club forms to walk at Lehigh Canal Park path

A 70-year-old Weissport woman with some time on her hands, created a perfect opportunity to get to know her neighbors.

Anita Wisler, said she was always too busy with her job to mingle with her neighbors, but that changed last summer when she finally retired after 37 years of working at Pencor Services, 17 with the TIMES NEWS and 17 more for PenTeleData."I thought what a nice neighborhood I'm living in," she said. "I was home for the winter for the first time and watched my neighbors helping each other with snow shoveling and other things."That is when she came up with the idea to form a walking club, and the Faith-Paced Walker's Club formed. The club will walk every Tuesday and Thursday morning, beginning April 22 and ending June 19."It's time for the community to say 'goodbye' to winter, pack away the snow shovels and snowblowers and walk to good health this spring with your neighbors and friends at the Weissport Canal," said Wisler.Wisler said that registration will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and the walk will begin promptly at 8:15 a.m.Walkers will walk at their own pace for as long as they want, but they must be back at the pavilion by 9 in order to be eligible to win prizes."Not only are the neighbors getting to know each other, they are getting some health benefits, too," she said.So far 12 people have signed up.Wisler said that she has met with various business owners who have happily donated prizes for the twice-weekly walks."The businesses were so helpful," she added. "They couldn't have been nicer. I really enjoyed meeting them."The prizes range from gift cards to gift baskets and more."Everyone gained a few extra pounds over the winter, so this is the perfect opportunity to start a walking club," she said. "Everyone knows I am a walker. I thought this was the perfect time to get better connected with the community where I live."Wisler said that walking will make everyone healthier."Health is wealth," she said. "I retired at 70. I took the leap and live within my means and I'm still going strong."For additional information about the Faith-Paced Walker's Club, contact Wisler at 610-377-5395.
