Police seek information about homicide; man's body found in Penn Forest

State police in Hazleton are looking for information in connection with a man whose body found Sunday in Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township.

Samuel Vacante, 52, of 20 Coventry Road, Drums, was reported to be missing at 9:07 p.m. Aug. 31 to Butler Township Police by his estranged wife.

Vacante's vehicle, a 2014 Kia, was also missing.

On Sept. 2, the vehicle was located abandoned on Eighth Street between Laurel and Wyoming Streets in Hazleton.

On Sunday, Vacante's body was discovered at 4:52 p.m. in a wooded area off Petrarch Trail in Penn Forest Township in Carbon County.

An autopsy was performed Monday by Dr. Gary Ross, forensic pathologist, and the victim was positively identified as Vacante.

The autopsy found the manner of death to be criminal homicide.

Pennsylvania State Police, the Butler Township Police Department and the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office are investigating.

Anyone who may have had contact with Vacante on Aug. 31, may have seen his vehicle in the vicinity of his residence in Butler Township, Luzerne County or the Towamensing Trails Development located in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Aug. 31 is asked to contact Lt. Anyone who may have seen the vehicle in Hazelton, specifically in the northeast section of the city, or in Berwick, in Columbia County, from Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 is also asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police.
