Nine defendants in pending drunken driving cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Jarred Michael Muffley, 23, of Andreas, was arrested on Sept. 11, 2016, along East Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Czar Founds, 19, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Nov. 9, 2016, by Mahoning Township police along Flagstaff Road. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to two motor vehicle code summary offenses.Serfass sentenced him to serve one to 60 months in the county prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and render 100 hours of community service. On the two summary offenses he was fined a total of $50 and costs.Founds is currently an inmate in the county prison.Tyler Scott Grohotolski, 27, of Palmerton, was arrested on Jan. 15, 2016, along Iron Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass sentenced him to serve 90 days to 60 months in the county prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and render 100 hours of community service.Grohotolski, currently an inmate in the county prison, was given credit for 96 days already served and paroled.Vernon Eric Fritz, 39, of Andreas, was arrested on Nov. 20, 2015, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.17 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.Gregory Samuel Nyce, 28, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on May 13, 2016, along Fawn Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Leslie Donald Sanders,49, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Feb. 11, 2014, along Route 209 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC. He also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related.He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension for a year for the DUI. On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail, but must serve the full 90 days, and a fine of $1,000. The jail time runs concurrent.He was given credit for 61 days already served. He will begin serving the remaining 29 days on March 4 at midnight and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.Troy Alan Christman,19, of Tamaqua, was arrested on March 16, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Ninth Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Corey Regan Schlier Jr.,29, of Lansford, was arrested on March 3, 2015, along Seventh Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.March Joseph Tita, 36, of Nazareth, was arrested on March 20, 2016, along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred. Tita is currently in the Bucks County prison awaiting sentencing on another DUI charge.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
