The Times News chose to ask about school vehicles when staffers participated in the statewide Right to Know project. We were given several options for the project and could choose one question.

Times News writers Chris Reber, Jarrad Hedes, Terry Ahner, Kelly Andrade and Judy Dolgos-Kramer filed a series of Right To Know requests with area school districts in May, asking for a list of all vehicles owned by the school district including year, make and model.All districts asked, including Pleasant Valley, Weatherly, Tamaqua, Northern Lehigh, Lehighton, Panther Valley and Jim Thorpe, provided full access to all of the records requested.Jim Thorpe submitted a list of vehicles at 9:30 a.m. on May 4 after receiving the request at 3:45 p.m. on May 3.Panther Valley also responded in less than 24 hours.While Lehighton's Right To Know officer was out of the office on the day of the request, the district responded on May 10, within five days of her return to work.Both Northern Lehigh and Tamaqua responded within a five-day period."I had no trouble getting the information," Andrade reported about her interaction with Weatherly. "They are always helpful when requesting information regarding the district."Dolgos-Kramer sent an online request for information to Pleasant Valley."The RTK officer had no additional questions and everything was completed the same day," she said.The oldest vehicles for each district is 1994 Chevrolet Truck and 1994 Ford Dump Truck, Northern Lehigh; 1995 Chevy K2500PI, Tamaqua; 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, Weatherly; 1995 Chevrolet Book Mobile, Pleasant Valley; four GMC vans purchased in Sept. 2001; 1989 Chevy Pickup, Jim Thorpe; and a 1987 Beck Trailer, Panther Valley.
