Bingo for books a hit at S.S. Palmer School

It was a night for families to get together and play bingo for books.

Indeed, Bingo Family Night held recently at S.S. Palmer Elementary proved to be a big hit, not only for the students, but their families as well.Reading specialist Jessica Silfies reminded the students and their families what the function aimed to achieve."The purpose of tonight is reading," Silfies said. "It's books."Students who won a game of bingo were able to walk up to a table filled with books and pick their choice.By the end of the program, all of the students who attended received a book.Fifth-grader Jared Tobia picked the book "Picking Apples and Pumpkins.""It's fun; I like being with my friends," said Jared, 11. "I'll probably give it (the book) to my sister."A few tables down, Ron Keblish said he was glad he brought his daughter, first-grader Taylor Keblish, to the function."She loves books, she likes to read, and she's familiar with bingo," Ron said. "She's been talking about it all week."The big prize of the night was a Kindle e-Reader.
