The late Jim Thorpe businessman Doug Rontz, who passed away on Jan. 1 of this year, will be memorialized during the 22nd Annual Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade on Sunday.

Sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club for the sixth straight year (since 2011), the parade will line up at 3 p.m. and kick off 60 minutes later at 4 o'clock. It will begin at the Jim Thorpe Area High School, turn left onto Center Street and proceed three blocks to Ninth Street. At that point, the route will turn right onto Ninth Street and go one block to North Street (Route 903), where it will make a left turn. The line of march will travel down North Street to Fifth Street, turn left onto Fifth Street and proceed to Center Street, where it will turn right and proceed to Second Street, where it will disband.Members of the Rontz family will serve as the official grand marshals for Doug, a popular businessman who left a mark on the community through his business, Doug Rontz Signs.He was a son of Marilyn "Skippy" (Parry) Rontz of Jim Thorpe and the late Edward "Coogie" Rontz, who, ironically, was the grand marshal of the third annual parade held 19 years ago.He was the father of Amy Rontz, fiancee of Michael J. Huber, and Sonya Rontz, fiancee of Bill Adamitis, and he had two grandchildren, Tyler and Kylee; two sisters, Mary Ann, wife of John Hazel of Palmerton, and Trisha, wife of Gary Higgins of Mahoning Valley; two nieces; and two nephews.The 2016 parade has 497 people, 71 vehicles and nine floats registered to participate in it.The parade committee consists of Jim Trainer, chairman; Debbie Trainer, treasurer; Sandy Gallagher, Lions Club president; Ron Sheehan; William "Butch" Reabold Jr.; Jolene Evans; Ray Brader; Melissa Redline; Dr. Clem McGinley; and Sophie McGinley.After the parade disbands, buses will shuttle participants back to Memorial Park for free refreshments and presentation of awards.
