The Carbon County Firemen's Association, through Bucks County Community College, sponsored a 16-hour Pump Operations II training program, held recently at the Nesquehoning Hose Company.

Nineteen firefighters from Coaldale, Hazle Township, Jim Thorpe, Lansford, Lynn Port, Nesquehoning, Summit Hill and Weatherly fire departments participated in the class.The course, taught by Mike Kitsock, was designed to instruct students in advanced techniques of operating fire pumps.In addition, participants received information for hydraulic calculations for friction loss and flows using written formulas and estimated methods for safe operations for the pumps on the fire ground.Practical instruction was held at the Nesquehoning Conservation Club pond in the Hauto Valley Estates, as well as at KME.The Nesquehoning Water Authority permitted usage of the water system as well.The lesson also included insight to the fire sprinkler and standpipe systems of Maple Shade Meadows, Ametek and the Nesquehoning School Apartments.
