Teachers in the Panther Valley School District have withdrawn their strike notice for May 22, as both sides continue to work toward a solution.

The teachers have been without a contract since August 2015.The head of the Panther Valley Education Association and the district's superintendent issued a statement on Friday advising parents that PLEA had withdrawn its strike notice that was issued in January.The letter, attributed to Superintendent Dennis Kergick and PVEA President Terence Bonner Jr., reads as follows:"Dear Panther Valley School District Community, we are jointly sending this release and notification in the interest of transparency and open communication between the Panther Valley School District and the students and families that we serve."We are pleased to announce the Panther Valley Education Association has withdrawn the notice of the intent to strike on May 22. The Panther Valley Board of Education and the Panther Valley Education Association have decided to pursue further negotiations in order to reach a mutually agreeable resolution to the current situation."The Panther Valley Education Association and the Panther Valley Board of Education are intent on pursuing an amicable end to any contractual disputes and the negotiations will continue in an effort to fulfill our obligation of providing an education to our students."As you may already know, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Panther Valley Board of Education and the Panther Valley Education Association expired in August of 2015. Both the Board of Education and the PVEA have been engaged in negotiations prior to the expiration and since the expiration. This process will continue without interruption."Maintaining the integrity of our educational programming and our students that attend the Panther Valley School District is always our main concern and focal point. Providing a sound education is always going to be a major consideration for all of us. As time goes on and negotiations continue, both groups (Panther Valley Board of Education and Panther Valley Education Association) intend to provide uninterrupted educational services to our students."
