Tamaqua Area School District names coaches, personnel
The names of coaches, substitute custodians, and other personnel were announced at Tuesday's regular meeting of the Tamaqua Area School Board held in the Tamaqua Area Middle School All-Purpose Room.
Coaches hired include: Joseph D. Dietz, Lehighton; assistant varsity boys basketball; Adrian Bumbulsky, Tamaqua, assistant swimming; Shane McCabe, Mahanoy City, and Rick Rynkiewicz, Tamaqua, assistant varsity wrestling co-coaches; Jon Shirvinsky, Tamaqua, head junior high wrestling; Brandan Silkowski, New Ringgold, and David Holmes, Tamaqua, volunteer assistant wrestling; and Samuel E. Schaefer, Tamaqua, volunteer assistant track and field.Substitute custodians include: Tyler Ansbach, Matthew Edmonds, Matthew DelBorrello, Tyler Groner, and Paul Vlcek, all of Tamaqua; Samuel DePue and Anthony Iacoviello, Andreas; Derek Drum, Mary-D; and Amy Yusella, Summit Hill.The board approved a request by Thomas Kanger and Samantha McBreen to attend the U.S. All-Star Track and Field and Cross Country Clinic in Atlantic City on Dec. 13.Also approved, contingent on submission of necessary documentation: David Pogash, St. Clair, substitute guest teacher; Lynn Deiter, high school teacher, to extend maternity leave to Nov. 12, using sick days to cover her absence; Kim Gavornik, paraprofessional, resignation effective Oct. 5; and Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic, New Beginnings, letter of linkage.The board also approved recommendations from the education committee as follows:* four high school students for homebound instruction.* one student for KidsPeace tutorial services, effective Sept. 30, at $40 per hour up to five hours a week.* Roseann Weinrich, high school biology teacher, to take the biology club members to visit the national museums in Washington, D.C., in early November.* Melissa Day, high school technology specialist, to attend the 90/90/90 Schools Summit, Mt. Laurel, N.J. on Oct. 10-11.The board approved the finance committee's recommendations as follows:* the purchase of 128 desktop computers and 30 laptop computers to replace end-of-life systems and prepare for a smooth transition to the Windows 7 platform.* authorizing the business manager to participate in the Pa. Education Joint Purchasing Council's bid process for the 2013-14 fiscal year for general paper, art, maintenance, custodial, computer, food service and athletic supplies.* authorizing the business manager to participate in the E-rate program.* approved a new bus stop for bus No. 44 a.m. and p.m. on West Broad Street at St. Jerome's Church to alleviate over load on bus No. 46.* ratify the addition of Madeline Behler, Tamaqua, to the substitute clerical list.The board also approved a request by the auxiliary committee for a family and medical leave by Patricia Turton for health reasons to begin on Nov. 8 and continue through Feb. 1; and by the education committee to add Carina Stoves, Lansford, to the substitute teacher list.Also added: Robert Campomizzi, Tamaqua, and Michael Krell, Pottsville, to the substitute guest teacher list; and Renee A. Boyer and Lillian Birkmeier, both of Tamaqua, to the substitute paraprofessional list.On a recommendation from the finance committee, the board agreed to adjust the retirement date of Marion Rang, secretary, from Sept. 14 to Oct. 6.In addition, the following were added as cafeteria monitors on an as-needed basis at $8.42 per hour: Ann Marie Hadesty, Mary Hankey, and Jeanine Herring, all of Tamaqua, and Donna Boyea, Andreas.The board also approved the Tamaqua Area School District Guidance Counseling Plan Outline.Assistant Superintendent Raymond Kinder reported that the district is now finished with all of the open houses and is preparing a November compatibility report.In addition, Kinder noted that the administration is excited about the array of special events currently under way at the district. The activities, some of which are taking place at three homes games in a row by the district's unbeaten varsity football team, were outlined at last Tuesday's board meeting and reported in the Oct. 10 edition of the TIMES NEWS.
