Palmerton School Board
The Palmerton School Board, last week, approved the transfer of the remaining funds in the Class of 2015 activity fund account, $105.58, to the district's general fund.
Board member Josann Harry, however, said she would prefer the money go to a project or handed down to the next class."I have long been against this," she said.Senior class adviser Craig Borland said funneling the money to another class is the plan for the future."Each class picks a project and we try our best to get most of the money spent to benefit the students," Borland said. "For the Class of 2015, at that time it was our understanding they could not donate what was left over to another class. That has changed and the Class of 2016 did in fact vote to donate the remaining funds to the next class."The board also:• Approved the exoneration of Connie Brown, Lower Towamensing Township, from collecting delinquent 2016-17 school year per capita taxes totaling $8,200.• Approved the legal service consultation agreement with Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams for the 2017-18 school year at a cost of $7,500 regarding special education and student services.• Refunded an overpayment of $1,204.79 on real estate tax bill 1394.• Hired Angela Heiland as district facilities/curriculum and instruction secretary at a salary of $31,528 (prorated) as of May 8.• Hired Lori Hawk as special education secretary at a starting salary of $31,528 (prorated) as of May 8.• Approved Linda Andersen, Andrea Anfuso, Lisandra Collazo, Sara Hernandez, Carol Taylor and Robert Winton as guest teachers, effective April 19.• Approved Carol Beidler as a substitute teacher, effective April 19.• Approved Kelly Warner as a substitute instructional assistant and substitute secretary, effective April 19.• Accepted the retirement of Salvador Rios Jr., high school custodian, effective Oct. 2.• Accepted the retirement of Kathy Englert, junior high math teacher, at the end of the 2016-17 school year.• Approved Vicki McHugh and Dawn Burke as Aevidum advisers.• Approved Amy Carelli as a substitute cafe worker, effective April 19.• Approved a high school graduation date of June 19.• Appointed Darlene Yeakel as the voting delegate to the Pennsylvania School Boards Association delegate assembly on Oct. 20.• Approved an agreement with A&A Limousine Service for bus transportation for the National Junior Honor Society's field trip to Hershey Park on May 26.• Accepted a donation of $115 from the Drama Club Parents Club bake sale.• Approved the establishment of the Palmerton Area Chapter of Aevidum.
