The borough of Bowmanstown has received three bids for its trash removal contract for the 2017 collection year.

During its monthly meeting, official letters from Tamaqua Transfer, County Waste and Advanced Disposal were opened and read by council President Kara Scott.Tamaqua submitted a bid of $57,963 for a one-year contract. County Waste of Pennsylvania submitted the lowest bid at $43,990 and Advanced Disposal submitted $61,769.Mayor William Ravert asked borough solicitor James Preston if there was a possibility of reviewing each company’s safety record before coming to a decision on who will win the job.“It could be an influence for lowest responsible bidder. We’ll report on what we find,” Preston said.“We want to compare the service we have now with what was submitted. We can have our secretary crunch the numbers,” Ravert said.The board will award the job during the Dec. 6 monthly council meeting.

Other businessThe board agreed to donate two 10-foot high sign poles to the borough fire department.The request to purchase two sign posts came from the department to construct poles in a more visible space to advertise for events held by the department.“Mike (Spairana, fire chief) emailed me about putting the poles more in town because they are not visible on Route 248,” said borough secretary Tracy Burbage.“On top of the ramp would be an ideal spot,” said councilman John Dormant.The board agreed to donate the two signs.Fallen leaf pick up will continue in the borough on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
