Assessing the damage

The blaze that tore through four Tamaqua houses early Thursday appears to have caused enough damage to call for possible demolition of all of the dwellings.

It appears all four houses were uninsured and costs to rehabilitate the structures might be insurmountable.

"I have a lot of fire damage to the third floor. The rest is water damage," said Bob Greenall, ownerof 114 S. Center St.

At noontime, Greenall was still shaken by the experience of receiving news of the fire in the middle of the night.

He and other residents and homeowners visited the site during daylight hours on Thursday and were surprised at the amount of damage and loss.
