A large flock of snow geese landed in a field in Penn Forest Township Monday morning.

The birds pass through this area during their annual migration cycle.According to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology snow geese are vegetarians with voracious appetites and will eat just about any part of plants. In winter and during migration they eat grains and leftover farm crops, which might explain why they chose a field that was part of Bond’s Farm on Route 903.Colleen Bradley, office coordinator at St. Luke’s Physical Therapy & Fitness Center, located across from the field, said that the flock only stayed for about 90 minutes.Snow is predicted, beginning early Thursday morning, with possible accumulations of 6 to 10 inches.A wintry mix will spread over the area from the west near midnight, reaching the northern New Jersey coast by 4 a.m.According to the National Weather Service, the heavy snow will make many roads potentially impassable for several hours during the worst part of the storm, which should be 5 to 10 a.m.There may be widespread power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines.
