A man from Coaldale will be ordained a transitional deacon in ceremonies on Saturday at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown. A transitional deacon is one step from becoming a priest.
John A. Hutta II, 28, has been preparing for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary near Philadelphia since 2012. He is the son of John A. and Diane L. Hutta, and stepson of Cindy R. Hutta. He is a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Palmerton.Hutta attended schools in Tamaqua and graduated from Tamaqua Area High School. He graduated from Alvernia University in Reading in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. At St. Charles, Hutta earned a Master of Divinity degree in theology.He will spend the next year promoting charity, proclaiming the Gospel and administering the Sacrament of Baptism before being ordained a priest next spring.The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. and will be presided over by Diocese of Allentown Bishop Emeritus Edward Cullen.
