Carbon County court - DUI cases
Seven defendants charged with driving under the influence and related charges, entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court last week.

Matika accepted the pleas.Rodney Allen Rider, 35, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to two counts of DUI and one each of possession of a controlled substance, heroin, and institutional vandalism.He was arrested for the DUI counts on Dec. 10, 2015, and June 3, 2016. In both cases a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. The drug count stems from an incident on July 8, 2015, along Center Street filed by Jim Thorpe police. The vandalism charge stems from an incident at the county prison on Aug. 6, 2016, where he broke a window in his cell. Nesquehoning police filed the charge.Sentencing was deferred so Rider can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation. Matika also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Brian Patrick Filipczyk, 23, of Mountain Top, was arrested on Dec. 31, 2016, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Kidder Township. A test revealed a 0.09 BAC.He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service.Niquise Deandre Johnson, 24, of Philadelphia, was arrested on April 6, 2016, along Route 940 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Jason T. Rode, 46, of Broomall, Delaware County, was arrested on Feb. 4 along Route 1003 by Kidder Township police. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Daryl Lee Greenawalt, 47, of Lansford, was arrested on Dec. 17, 2016, along Bertsch Street by Lansford police. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Greenawalt can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Jennifer Wenhold, 36, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Dec. 11, 2016, along Route 903 by Kidder Township police. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.George Gerard Third, 52, of Wilkes-Barre, was arrested on Sept. 24, 2016, along South Lake Drive in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Summary offenseDaniel Wayne Donohue, 63, of Haverford, Montgomery County, pleaded to a summary offense of disregard of traffic lane. A charge of DUI was dropped.He was stopped on Oct. 29, 2015, along Route 940 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge.He was fined $50 and costs.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
