Planners give conditional approval to distillery

Third time was the charm for a proposed distillery in Penn Forest Township.

On Tuesday, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan approval for the Holly Spirits Distillery.Sky Fogal owns the distillery to be located on Meckesville Road at Skirmish USA Inc.The plan went before the county planning commission twice before, in September and November 2016, and received conditional plan rejection because a number of items needed to be addressed.The project calls for constructing a 6,180-square-foot micro distillery and tasting building, as well as a 14,070-square-foot parking lot.Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner,said a number of areas of noncompliance have been addressed, but there are still a few outstanding that must be met before full plan approval.Those include sanitary sewer system requirements and the completion of a performance guarantee and maintenance guarantee.In other matters, the planning commission made recommendations on two additional plans in the county.• Joseph and Judith McCarry received plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 47 Byron Lane, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township. The plans call for combining two lots to create a 0.918-acre lot.• Garrett A. Kistler received conditional plan rejection for a proposed land development at the intersection of Fifth and Lehigh streets in Palmerton. This is the second time the project came before the board, first receiving conditional plan rejection in May 2015. It calls for converting an existing structure into two apartment units with off-street parking.
