Robert V. Stanek, a 1970 Marian High School graduate, and retired president and CEO, Catholic Health East, Newtown Square, has been installed as chairman/chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) for 2011-2012.

The installation ceremony took place during the 2011 Catholic Health Assembly in Atlanta, June 5-7.The Catholic Health Association of the United States supports the Catholic health ministry's commitment to improve the health status of communities and create quality and compassionate health care that works for everyone. Comprised of more than 600 hospitals and 1400 long-term care and other health facilities in all 50 states, CHA is the largest group of nonprofit health care providers in the nation. Together with their sponsoring organizations, CHA employs more than 750,000 women and men who deliver services combining advanced technology with the Catholic caring tradition.Stanek was elected to the board of trustees of the Catholic Health Association in 2006. The CHA board of trustees provides governance by working with members to set strategic directions in order to support and strengthen the Catholic health ministry in the United States. The CHA board consists of 24 trustees.Stanek has also served as the chairman/chairwoman of the Rebirth and Renewal Campaign, a joint initiative between CHA and Catholic Relief Services to raise $10 million capital funds for the rebuilding of the St. Francois de Sales Hospital in Port-au-Prince, devastated by the January 2009 earthquake.Stanek recently retired as president and CEO of Catholic Health East after more than 35 years of service and leadership in the health care field. He began his career in 1976 as a pharmacist at Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville. He was named chief operating officer and president of the Good Samaritan Health Corporation in 1986. He then served as president and chief executive officer of Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. and chief operating officer of Mercy Health System.In 1996, he was named president and chief executive officer of Mercy Health System of Western New York where he coordinated activities leading o the formation of the Catholic Health System in Buffalo, N.Y. He then joined Catholic Health East in 1997 first as executive vice president, mid-atlantic division and then chief operating officer before being named president and CEO in 1997.Stanek earned a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, a bachelor of science in pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and a master of business administration in administrative management from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia.He is the son of Walter and the late Anna (Madak) Stanek of Hometown. He is married to the former Noel Kane of Mahanoy City, also a 1970 graduate of Marian.
