Bids for oil and diesel fuel and for road materials were opened Thursday night at the Towamensing Township supervisors meeting.

There were two bids for oil and diesel from R. F. Ohl Heating Oil & Propane in Stroudsburg and Superior Plus Energy Services in Aston.For 18,000 gallons of diesel, Ohl bid 2.083 cents per gallon for a total of $37,494. And for 2,000 gallons of heating oil, the company bid 2.009 cents per gallon or a total of $4,018.Superior Plus bid 1.9483 cents per gallon or $35,069.41 for the diesel and 1.9535 cents per gallon or a total of $3,907 for the heating oil. The supervisors selected Superior Plus to supply the oil and diesel for a year.Two companies put in bids to supply road materials. They were Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction Co. in Andreas and N. A. Balliet Trucking in Kunkletown. The township sought bids for 400 tons of asphalt, 500 tons of PA-2A sub base stone, AASHTO stone, 600 tons of anti-skid, and 200 tons of 19 millimeter SuperPave binder mix.Lehigh did not put in a bid to supply the asphalt, but Balliet did. Its bid for the asphalt was $17 per ton for a total of $6,960.Balliet did not put in a bid for the SuperPave mix, but Lehigh did at $58.75 per ton or a total of $11,750.Lehigh's bid for PA-2A was $9.25 per ton for a total of $4,625. Balliet's bid was $15.25 per ton or $7,625.Lehigh's bid for AASHTO was $16 per ton or $6,400, while Balliet's was $20.50 per ton or $8,200 total.And Lehigh's bid for anti-skid was $16 per ton or a total of $9,600, with Balliet's at $17 per ton or $10,350 total.Supervisor Guy Seifert suggested that they table a decision until they have a chance to talk about the bids with the roadmaster, Scott Mosier, who was not present at the meeting. The supervisors decided to meet at 2 p.m. on July 14 to discuss the bids with him and make a decision.Penny Kleintop, the chairperson of the Board of Supervisors, announced that the township received the second payment of a state conservation grant awarded in 2015. The grant total was $31,754 and was used for work done on Forest Street.The township has also received notice that it will receive a conservation grant for 2016 for work planned on Walnut Drive.The grant is for $39,650. Work will begin on Sept. 1.
