Carbon County court — drug-related cases

Seven defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accept pleas from the following:

Joshua Beury

, 38, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.

He was arrested on Jan. 1 by Nesquehoning police and members of the county drug task force after they served a search warrant at his residence along West Railroad Street. Various drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the home. The police report also indicated he admitted using a cellphone to arrange for sales. The original arrest report indicated crystal methamphetamine was found, but his plea was to possession of marijuana.

Sentencing was deferred.

Thomas A. Tessitore Jr.,

37, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Feb. 19, 2019, near the intersection of Patterson Street and Parkview Road by Lansford police following a vehicle stop. Tessitore was a back seat passenger. A search recovered heroin.

Tessitore is currently an inmate in the Centre County prison serving a sentence imposed in Schuylkill County.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve one to 12 months in prison, concurrent with Schuylkill County, and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

Stephanie Ann Barron,

38, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. She was arrested on June 26, 2019, by Nesquehoning police in the area of the Dollar General Store along East Catawissa Street. Police responded to the area for a report of a suspicious female. Police made contact with Barron, who appeared to be dazed. Heroin was found in her purse.

It was noted she has pending charges in Schuylkill County.

Nanovic sentenced her to time-served (five days) to 12 months in prison and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use. The term runs concurrent with a 18 month probation period she is serving on drug counts.

Suzanne Dee Frohnheiser,

28, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested on May 7, 2019, by Lansford police at Patterson and Cortright streets following a traffic stop. Found was crystal methamphetamine.

Frohnheiser, an admitted drug addict, is currently enrolled in a inpatient drug rehabilitation program run by the Salvation Army. She told the court after the sentencing proceeding she will return to the program, which is expected to last at least six months.

She told the court, “I’m trying to get help for my addiction.” She said she went through two other programs but relapsed each time.

Nanovic placed her on probation for three years and ordered her to complete the Salvation Army program, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.

Dominic Chickilly,

28, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a count of possession of a controlled substance dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. He was arrested on Sept. 3, 2019, by Lansford police along West Water Street. Police responded to a report of a suspicious male in the area, who was Chickilly. Heroin was found.

Chickilly is currently an inmate in the county prison serving another sentence. He said the instant case was his last pending matter in Carbon. He said he is currently trying to arrange for entering a inpatient rehab program.

Nanovic sentenced him to time-served (14 days) to 12 months in prison but ordered he can only be released from prison to enter a inpatient program which he must successfully complete. The term runs concurrent with any other sentence he is now serving.

Nieko Eric Evans,

30, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on July 27, 2019, by Lansford police along West Bertsch Street. Heroin was found.

He was sentenced to serve two to 12 months in prison with credit for 119 days already served and paroled. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

James Washington Jr.,

31, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while under suspension. He was arrested on Jan. 10 by Summit Hill police at Pine and Amidon streets following a vehicle stop. Officers detected the order of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.

On the drug count Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation. On the suspension charge he was fined $200.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.

ARD placement

Mark Anthony Barrett II,

22, of Blandon, Berks County, was placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for six months on a charge of possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon. He was arrested following a traffic stop in the 700 block of East Patterson Street by Lansford police. He was found in possession of a set of brass knuckles.

He was assessed $650 for the cost of the program and ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program. If he successfully completes all conditions of the program his record will be wiped clean. If he fails to complete it, or is revoked from it, then he will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.
