A hearing that was scheduled for today for a former constable charged with abusing his official authority by soliciting at least seven women for sex has been continued.

The new hearing date for George T. Bottomley Jr. of Lansford is 11 a.m. May 30 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.The hearing had been scheduled before Judge Steven R. Serfass in the office of District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford. The venue was changed because Bottomley served warrants primarily from the office of Kosciolek.Also, the seven complainants in the case were centered around warrants Bottomley were serving from the Lansford magistrate's office.Bottomley was suspended as a constable on Oct. 3, 2016, as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Carbon County District Attorney's Office, the Lansford Police Department, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.He is charged with promoting prostitution, bribery in official and political matters, obstructing administration of law or other government function and involuntary servitude.Bottomley, who was elected to his second, six-year term as constable in November 2015, was arraigned on the charges on April 18 before Serfass. Bail was set at 10 percent of $20,000. He is free after posting the $2,000 bond.Investigators charge that over more than five years, Bottomley offered to "help" at least seven women by paying their court costs and fines, or overlooking warrants issued for their arrest. In exchange, he asked the women to have sex with him.
