Monroe passes emergency disaster declaration

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners passed a declaration of disaster emergency for the county in response to the current situation involving the COVID-19 virus.

By declaring a disaster emergency, the county’s ability to protect the health, safety and welfare of the

residents of Monroe County is enhanced.

It also allows the county to access federal and state funding, when available. This action does not change any current response to the efforts by other agencies to

combat the virus.

In addition to the declaration, and in order to keep county government open, the commissioners have ordered all departments to reduce staffing levels in their offices to only essential personnel. This action will enable county government to continue to provide necessary services, while minimizing contact

between the public and county staff.

The commissioners urge members of the public to avoid county offices unless absolutely necessary to avoid any potential exposure. Call county departments for assistance or information.
