Championship game set

After an epic night of playoff basketball on Wednesday evening, the championship game has been set for the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) Summer Basketball League.

With a semifinal win over Batter's Box, defending ESRC Winter League Champion Ryan's Oil & Heating has advanced to tonight's championship game, where they will meet three-time defending summer league champion R.R. Frey Services (a semifinal winner over Schick's Café Calcutta).The matchup marks the third time in the last four year's the Ryan's and R.R. Frey have played for the ESRC Summer League Championship.Tonight's championship contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the North and Middle Ward Playground in Tamaqua. In the event of rain, the contest will be played in the Salvation Army Community Center gymnasium in Tamaqua.WEDNESDAY'S PLAYOFF RESULTSQUARTERFINALS#3 Schick's Café Calcutta-#6 Guerrilla SquadSchick's Café Calcutta advanced to the semifinals with a 49-37 victory over Guerrilla Squad.Joe Tamagini and Matt Murphy both scored 12 points apiece to help lead Schick's to the 12-point victory.Derrick McFarland tallied 11 points for Guerrilla Squad in the losing effort.#4 Cuz-N-Joe's Place-#5 Batter's BoxBatter's Box started the 2012 playoffs in impressive fashion, but pulling of a slight upset of Cuz-N-Joe's Place by a final score of 57-53.Erick Trabal posted a game-high 21 points to lead Batter's Box, while go Bejtullah Mehmetti finished with 11 points on the night.Christian Laputka had 16 points in Cuz-N-Joe's loss.SEMIFINALS#1 Ryan's Oil & Heating-#5 Batter's BoxAfter a one-year hiatus, Ryan's Oil & Heating will make its return the championship game as they disposed of Batter's Box by a final score of 60-50.Kieran Conway had 19 points for Ryan's and Jeff Peel followed with four three-pointers and 14 points in the win.Erick Trabal chipped in 17 points to lead Batter's Box.#2 R.R. Frey Services-#3 Schick's Café CalcuttaWith a 64-52 semifinal victory over Schick's Café Calcutta, R.R. Frey Services will be making its fourth straight ESRC championship game appearance on Friday night.Jim Barron buried four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points for R.R. Frey Services. Dan Miller also added 11 points in R.R.
