Women faced with drug possession, theft

A pair of Carbon County woman are in jail for possession of drug paraphernalia following a string of retail thefts at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.

Township police said that at 3:12 p.m. Feb. 2, police were dispatched to a retail theft, and a fraudulent return of stolen items at Walmart involving $464.08 in merchandise.Loss prevention reported two females had fled in a Kia Soul. Police stopped the vehicle on Gilberts Hill Road.During the investigation, police seized heroin, a syringe, and other drug paraphernalia.The driver, Tara Good, 30, of Palmerton, has been charged with retail theft, a misdemeanor; criminal conspiracy - retail theft; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.The passenger, Zoey Bartenope,18, of Lehighton, has been charged with retail theft, a felony; criminal conspiracy - retail theft, a felony; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.As part of the investigation, police closed two additional retail theft investigations at Walmart.Bartenope was charged with stealing $304.74 in merchandise at 5:10 p.m. Jan. 27, as well as $187.33 in merchandise at 6:58 p.m. Feb. 1.Both were placed in Carbon County Prison by Adult Probation.
