Two more defendants in a drug roundup operation early in 2016 entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday and face prison terms when sentenced.

Connie Serfass, 60, and Richard Moyer, 58, both of 1541 Fritz Valley Road, Lehighton, pleaded to counts of corrupt organizations and criminal conspiracy - possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The two were among a total of seven arrested during the roundup by agents of the state Attorney General's office and the county drug task force.The seven were charged with operating a crystal methamphetamine ring in Carbon and Lehigh counties.Also arrested in the roundup were Susan Annette Rex, 57, of Nesquehoning; Edilberto Ortiz Jr., 45, of Allentown; Holly Ann Eckhart, 50, of Palmerton; Robert David Rex, 58, of Lansford; and Donna Marie Ziegenfuss, 45, of Palmerton. Susan Rex and Ziegenfuss also entered guilty pleas in the case. Ziegenfuss was sentenced to serve a total of 16 months to four years in a state correctional institution by Serfass on charges of corrupt organizations, criminal conspiracy-possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Rex is awaiting sentencing and has applied for placement in the state intermediate punishment program and is currently in a state prison being evaluated for the program.According to criminal complaints filed by the AG office in support of the charges, investigators identified Ortiz as a main distributor who supplied six people with methamphetamine. Those people later redistributed the drugs to their customers.Officials said the activity occurred between January and March 2016.Investigators used confidential informants for controlled purchases of methamphetamine over the course of the investigation.More than 4 pounds of methamphetamine were seized from a residence where Ortiz was staying, investigators reported in a criminal complaint.That search also resulted in the seizure of a .32-caliber handgun, roughly $2,400 and drug paraphernalia.Searches of other residences resulted in the seizure of various quantities of methamphetamine, cash, digital scales and drug paraphernalia.Serfass told the two that they face prison terms according to state sentencing guidelines when sentenced.Assistant Attorney General Christie F. Bonesch said the commonwealth would not oppose a sentence for each in the mitigated range due to their cooperation in the investigation.Attorney Mark E. Combi, court appointed, said Serfass has been approved for the Salvation Army's inpatient drug rehabilitation program and will begin it shortly and asked that sentencing be deferred until she completes the program, which runs from six to nine months.Attorney Brian Collins said Moyer is seeking placement in an inpatient program and asked that his sentencing be deferred.Serfass deferred sentencing but ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report for both defendants.
