Firefighters and rescuers from the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Tamaqua Fire Department used hydraulic extrication equipment to safely remove an 18-year old female driver and three passengers from their tan Chevrolet sedan, after it crashed into an unoccupied white GMC Sierra pickup truck parked on the side of the road at the 300 block of Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua just after midnight Friday.

The impact also partially ejected Nicholas DeAngelo, Tamaqua, through the front windshield. DeAngelo was sitting in the back seat.Reportedly, while traveling west the driver, Karissa Hunarn, of Tamaqua, lost control and struck the passenger side of the parked pickup truck, owned by George Stevens, forcing both vehicles to travel sideways about 50 feet, into a nearby drainage ditch. More than 160 feet of skid marks could also be seen on the road leading to the accident.Rescuers also had to deal with 4-foot high poison ivy, which surrounded the accident scene.Also in the vehicle were front seat passenger Jarrod Bowman, of Tamaqua, and a juvenile. Three of the people in the car were transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale, while DeAngelo was air lifted to a Lehigh Valley area hospital.Investigating Officer Matt Bynon said speed was a factor and charges are pending.Also responding were fire police, Lehighton and Penn Mahoning ambulances.
