Carbon County is paying a little more for its death records, but should be able to transfer them to a new vendor without problem, officials said.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners voted to approve the termination agreement with eCedent LLC of Indiana, Pennsylvania, who is going out of business on July 31, and agree to pay $2,500 for its death record files.Coroner Robert Miller, last week, said that eCedent is a private storage company that the county has used for the last nine years to file its death records. He has the paperwork for each death, but the photos are all digital and only saved at eCedent.The board tabled the motion, which called for paying $1,500 for a bulk download of the files, last week after questions arose.Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein explained that after reviewing the contract and speaking with eCedent, the $1,500 option would not have worked for the county because the files would not have been in a format that could be transferred to a new vendor.Another option, he said, was to have the coroner's office staff manually download all files, but seven files took an hour to download and chief deputy Coroner Gerald Jones said there were over 1,500 files in the system.So Carbon was left with option three for $2,500.The county will receive all files with a database separated along with instructional data sheets to help move files to a new vendor, which has not been hired yet.
