Family members injured in crashes

Three members of a Monroe County family were injured in two crashes that occurred early Wednesday morning.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said Israel Matos III, 30, of Effort, was driving a 2002 Jeep northbound on SR115 at the entrance to WT Family Campground, in Tunkhannock Township, about 3:21 a.m. when he veered off the right side of the road and struck a large tree causing the Jeep to overturn. The tree fell onto the road and blocked 115.Matos called his parents, Israel Matos Jr., 52, and Maria Matos, 50, of Effort. The couple, in a Ford Expedition, went to the accident scene and approached it at a high rate of speed. Matos Jr. did not see the tree on the road until the last minute, swerved to the left, went off the left side of the road with the Expedition overturning. All three family members were injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment.
