Walker Twp. plans road projects

Walker Township has agreed to advertise for this year's road program projects.

On a unanimous vote, the township's board of supervisors on Thursday agreed to make July 31 the deadline for the acceptance of bids.The bids will be open at that time, with a potential bid award to take place at the board's Aug. 3 meeting.Reynolds Road, as well as parts of Catawissa and Wildcat roads are being looked at, as well as an alternative parts of River Road.Township secretary Ann Ostergaard said the cost of the proposed plan is $172,000, however, the board plans to look at several options and may choose not to do the entire plan this year.Of that, Ostergaard said there is $113,000 available from liquid fuels, while the rest of the cost would be paid for from general funds.Also on Thursday, supervisors, on a 2-0 vote, with an abstention from Supervisor Christine Troxell, approved a request from the New England Fire Co. No. 1 to use township equipment to repair several potholes along Miller Lane.Troxell abstained because she lives on Miller Lane next to the fire company.Additionally, supervisors approved a PIRMA general liability policy in the amount of $9,969 for a one-year term.
