Deer hunters are reminded to use the PGC reporting system

With the two-week statewide general deer season closed, Pennsylvania Game Commission executive director Carl Roe has reminded hunters to take the time to report their deer through the online reporting system, through the new toll-free Interactive Voice Response telephone reporting system or by using the postage-paid report cards included in the 2012-13 Digest provided free to each license buyer.

"With the three methods of reporting, the Game Commission is doing its best to make completing this required task even easier," Roe said. "Unfortunately, based on more than 20,000 deer checked by Game Commission deer aging teams last year, less than 40 percent of hunters took the time to report their deer."Roe noted that one of the recommendations to improve the agency's deer management program from the 2010 Legislative Budget and Finance Committee's audit of the deer management program was to increase harvest reporting rates. As a result, the PGC now offers three convenient methods for hunters to report harvests and, based on recent surveys, Pennsylvania's hunters consider the postage-paid report cards, online and phone reporting systems to be easy and convenient. When reporting antlerless deer, Roe urged hunters with multiple antlerless deer licenses to be sure that they file the correct report for the antlerless license used to tag the deer in the field. To report a deer online, go to the PGC website at

http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/); to report with the toll-free IVR telephone system, call 1-855-PAHUNT1 (1-855-724-8681); or simply mail the report postcards, which are included as tear-out sheets in the current digest."We certainly are encouraging hunters to use the online reporting system, which will ensure that their harvest is recorded," Roe said. "The more important point is that all hunters do their part in deer management and report their harvested deer to the agency."**********In addition to annual and senior lifetime fishing licenses, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for the first time is offering anglers the choice of purchasing multi-year license and trout stamps or Lake Erie combination stamps that are valid for three or five years. Senior licenses may be purchased, or given as a gift, to anyone who will celebrate their 65th birthday during the January 1-December 31 license year.If one of the new multi-year licenses is purchased without a trout stamp or Lake Erie permit, they can buy either in the future. When they buy the stamp or permit, however, it is not for one year, but prorated for the remaining years of the license. In addition, the PFBC has also announced a fishing sweepstakes to coincide with the sale of fishing licenses. This contest will award a series of fishing trips across the state for many of Pennsylvania's popular game fish, and to participate register online at
