Eight first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last Friday by Judge J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed on driving under the influence charges and all were placed for a year.Khalil Quran Aleem-Brown, 24, of Philadelphia, was arrested on Feb. 19 along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jessica Kutza, 34, of Coaldale, was arrested on Jan. 16 along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test revealed a 0.27 BAC.She was assessed $550 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Matthew David MacDonald, 20, of Mountain Top, Luzerne County, was arrested on Dec. 24, 2016, along Hudsondale Street by Weatherly police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.Nicholas W. Musero, 37, of Lindenwood, New Jersey, was arrested on Jan. 29 along Route 534 in Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.He was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.Kenneth John Nace, 40, of Hazleton, was arrested on Feb 6 by state police at Hazleton along Market Street in Tresckow. A test revealed a 0.19 BAC.He was assessed $550 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Robert James Petruska, 21, of Boonton, New Jersey, was arrested on Feb. 9 along I-80 in East Side Borough by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jeremy John Pilny, 36, of Carbondale, Lackawanna County, was arrested on Sept. 1, 2016, by Kidder Township police along Route 534. A test revealed a 0.09 BAC.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.David Allen Zeigler, 46, of Andreas, was arrested on March 20 by Mahoning Township police along Twin Crest Drive. He refused a blood test.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and follow any recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
