Bethlehem Police investigating a car full of sleeping people on Route 378 found a stolen gun in a backpack.

Devon Kidd said it was his firearm in the backpack, and he was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property. He was sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.Bethlehem police said a little before 8 a.m. Saturday, an officer saw a 2006 BMW parked on Route 378 North, just north of the Main Street exit.The officer saw four people asleep in the vehicle, three males and one female. The front passenger window was open, and the officer reported smelling the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. Police said they found a suspected joint in the vehicle, and a stolen, loaded Springfield XD9 pistol in a backpack in the trunk.Kidd, 21, was the front passenger in the car, and reportedly the told police the firearm was his.Kidd told police he lives in Philadelphia, but police could not verify his address and his driver's license currently lists an address in Astatula, Florida.
