Scholastic Book Fair

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO Scholastic Book Fair continues through Friday.At Pleasant Valley Elementary today is open house for kindergarten and first grade as well as the Scholastic Book Fair.On Thursday the same event is happening for second and third grades.Ridge SeniorsChestnut Ridge Seniors will meet Thursday at the Kunkletown fire hall. Registration starts at 8 a.m. with sign-up for the muffler rapping and burnout contest.Lots of food and vendors are promised.On Sunday the company is having its gun show.Doors open at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.Anyone looking for something special for the upcoming hunting season could find it here, members say.Also, breakfast and lunch will be available. hishands@ptd.net or the church office at 570-629-1890.Remembrance DayZion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is partnering with the Western Pocono Community Library, the West End Fire Company and the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network to have a Remembrance Day memorial to honor and remember all those who died, those who served and those affected by the 9/11 tragedy 15 years ago.The event will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Western Pocono Community Library and will include a group choir, the possibility to bring canned goods for the PVEN and a reception that will follow.Honoring helpersThe Sunday school students of Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville are hosting a community event on Sept. 11 to honor the people in the community who do so much to help others, including Helpers, Healers and Heroes.In addition to acknowledging the anniversary of 9/11, the event is intended to provide a way for the community to thank local heroes such as Pennsylvania State Police, volunteer ambulance workers, volunteer firefighters, local military personnel - active and inactive - and all of the volunteers and staff who make the community a safe and great place to live.The event will include food, fellowship and fun … and it's free.
