Tamaqua Area School District plans to bid out a pair of projects at one of its elementary schools.

That's after the school board's finance committee on Tuesday authorized the business manager to bid the entrance replacement and loading dock repair at West Penn Elementary.Business manager Connie Ligenza said the projects are part of the capital improvements of the district's buildings on the previously board-approved list of additional items.In June, the board approved the 2016-17 budget with a 1.09-mill raise, which increased the millage rate from 34.29 to 35.38 mills.The budget left the district with a $2.12 million deficit, meaning it has to use $1,923,000 from its fund balance to balance the budget.Ligenza previously said the reason for the increase is due primarily to the capital needs and improvements of its buildings on the board-approved list of additional items.OtherIn other action, the board's finance committee approved the following votes to be placed as resolutions on the Aug. 16 board meeting agenda:• The agreement between the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 and the district for the Special Education Services for the 2016-17 school year for a tentative amount of $422,155.• The Agreement for Participation in the Child Nutrition Program between the district and the Schuylkill County ACTS Operating Agency for the 2016-17 school year.• The Agreement for Participation in the Child Nutrition Program between the district and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 for the 2016-17 school year.• The 2016-17 bus routes and stops, along with bus drivers.• Establishing tuition rates for the 2016-17 school year as follows: Elementary, $7,863, K-half day, $3,932; and secondary, $10,225.• The lunch contract with St. Jerome's Parochial School for the 2016-17 school year.• Plancon Part K for the 2015 general obligation note.• A one-year contract with BHA for the 2016-17 school year.• The appointment of board President Larry Wittig as a member of the AVTS authority for the 2016-17 school year.The board's Education Committee approved the following votes to be placed as resolutions on the Aug. 16 board meeting agenda:• The agreement between the district and PA Treatment and Healing for Alternate Education for Disruptive Youth for the 2016-17 school year.• The second reading of a policy related to Confidentiality and Maintenance of Student Records.
