The West Penn Lions and Lioness clubs will continue to sponsor the annual West Penn Senior Fun Day. The fun-filled day will be held Aug. 5 at the West Penn Community Park. Activities will begin at 11:30 a.m.The event is free and open to all township residents age 62 and older.The day will include free entertainment, free food, informational sessions, games and lots of fellowship.Preregistration is required for food preparation purposes. To register, call Melissa at 570-818-7071 or Deb at 610-530-7569 no later than July 29.The event will be held rain or shine.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met July 11 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 55 members in attendance. President Bill Morrison conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading “Keep Our Nation in Thy Care.”A moment of silence was held in memory of Thelma Carvello. Jerry Krondrot was welcomed back.Birthday wishes were extended to Pauline Fenstermacher, Gloria Gerhart and Mary Taylor, while Mr. and Mrs. John Haldeman were congratulated on celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary.Members were reminded of the upcoming summer picnic, scheduled to begin at noon on July 25 at St. Peter’s Grove in Locust Valley; and the Aug. 15 trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino.Inspirational readings were offered by Ruthann Feane.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville. The next meeting will be held July 11.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Sidewalk saleThe annual Tamaqua Sidewalk Sale, sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 5. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.A large selection of gently used and like new books, coffee table style books, movies and puzzles will be available. The bake sale will feature a variety of home made goodies.The library is located at 30 South Railroad Street.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.The youth group will be holding a car wash in the church parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon on July 22.St. Peter’s UnionThis Sunday’s worship service for St. Peter’s Union Church will be held at 10 a.m. at the West Penn Park.
