Security cameras will soon be installed at Ginder Field in Summit Hill in an effort to curb vandalism that's recurring there.

Summit Hill Borough Council on Monday approved an upgrade to its computer system for the camera installation, which was the only impediment to the camera installation.The camera purchase was a joint venture of the Summit Hill Borough Council, Summit Hill Recreation Commission and Summit Hill American Legion.Last month, council gave the recreation commission approval to buy the cameras from Computer Pals in Franklin Township at a cost of $2,809. The borough is paying $1,659.94 of that amount for the computer system upgrades and the commission will pay the balance of the cost, with a grant from the American Legion being applied.Ginder Field, which is used for baseball and football and has a playground, has been the scene of various acts of vandalism in recent years.Vandals have not only targeted playground equipment but also have done extensive damages to a storage building on the premises, including the destruction of electrical components.Kira Steber, secretary-treasurer for the borough, said the expenditure for the computer upgrades is budgeted.
