Woman charged with violating dog law after pit bulls attack, kill cat

A Chestnuthill Township woman has been charged with violating the Dog Law Act after her pit bulls attacked and killed a cat.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Jason M. Bell of the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement:

Mary Jo Dredger, 55, of Effort, is the owner and keeper of a female pit bull mix breed type dog named “Maggie Mae” and a male pit bull breed type dog named “Little Man.”

On June 27, Dredger was convicted of harboring two dangerous dogs. The conviction was handed down by District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.

On Jan. 26, the two pit bulls attacked and killed a cat that belonged to another person.

The instant dog law violations are graded as a third-degree misdemeanor being the second or subsequent violation of the Dog Law within one year.

Dredger has a prior conviction for violating where sentencing occurred within one year of the date of the instant offense and was found guilty of those dog law violations.

Dredger is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing April 24 before Mancuso.
