Volunteers prepare for annual clothing drive

Volunteers from St. John's Lutheran Church in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe have been preparing for months for the 19th Annual St. John's Clothing Ministry.

A variety of items will be distributed to those who come to the event. The distribution will take place during the first three weeks in August on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings starting this week and ending on Aug. 19.Everything is from donations from throughout the community and they have a variety of items such as clothing for all seasons for infants through adults in all sizes, shoes and footwear, bedding, household items, and toys. There are no income requirements and everyone is welcome. All that they ask is that people sign in with their name and their town so that they can keep track of how many people come each year.Last year, they served almost 500 people, so they like to keep track of the communities that they serve.People come not only from Jim Thorpe, but from all over the area.Whatever is not given out during this time is donated to the Allentown Rescue Mission for men's items.A partner church in Frackville receives the remaining items for their clothing ministry.Nothing is thrown away or sold.
