A sports utility vehicle and a train collided at the railroad crossing leading into the Carbon County parking lot in Jim Thorpe on Monday.
Borough police responded to the crash about 12:07 p.m. According to police Roy Dennis Fatur, of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse and was entering the parking lot off Lehigh Street when his vehicle was struck by the 425 Reading and Northern steam engine pulling passenger cars.
Fatur told police he didn't see or hear the train approaching as he entered the crossing. Fatur sustained a minor laceration to his forearm while his wife, who was seated in the front passenger seat, reported no injuries.
The Traverse sustained disabling damages in the incident.
Jim Thorpe Fire Department and Lehighton ambulance responded.
Police said charges are pending against Fatur.
