The Tamaqua Public Library will sponsor a Young Adult/Teen Summer Reading Program beginning June 10. A moment of silence was held in memory of the nine members who passed away during the last year: Pat Johnson, Phil Price, William Brown, Ann Menconi, Winnie Dolan, Anseneth Horan, Jim Engle, Vern Balliet and Rosetta Folk.Kathleen Valentine, Shirley Shellhammer and Jane Tarter were placed on the sick list.Picnic refreshments were served.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Four prizes are available and winners need not be present to win.Tickets are available from any fire police member or by calling 570-778-4170.Rain date will be June 26, same time and place.Community picnicFriedens Lutheran Church will host a free community picnic on Sundayat the church, 525 Church St. in New Ringgold from 3-6 p.m.Refreshments will include Coney Island burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, other picnic foods and the opportunity to create your own ice cream sundae.The event is open to all members of the community.
