Good news for Tamaqua's Bungalow Pool patrons. The borough of Tamaqua has secured a vendor for the upcoming pool season.

Council approved a lease agreement with Chris and Tracy Stegmerten, proprietors of the Dog Haus, for the operation of the concession stand at the pool. Council was thrown for a loop last month when the previous vendor pulled out of the lease just months before the pool is scheduled to open.After that announcement, Dan Evans, chairman of the recreation and youth committee, said he had been contacted by several vendors, and they were able to find a new one in time.In other pool related business, council granted permission for the Tamaqua YMCA Adventure Camp to use the Bungalow facilities in the morning between 9:30-11 a.m., as they have in previous years for open swimming and lessons.Council also approved hiring additional staff members for the pool, including Brianna Heck and Megan Ruch as clerks, and Ethan Eberts, Kailyn Erbe, Kennedy Ho, Carly Kosciolek, and Olivia Stanek as lifeguards; and awarded a bid for the replacement of the Bungalow Park's pavilion roof to Lykens Valley Contractors, out of Millersburg, in the amount of $6,129.84.Seasonal workersCouncil approved the hiring of part-time seasonal workers as well, including Daylon Barron, Bradly Clemson, Bernie Gigle, Ernest Shilko, Christian Slane, Benjamin Turrano, and Dylan Woods. These workers are responsible for seasonal work such as grass cutting and snow removal.Councilman Micah Gursky noted that a grievance that had been filed by the United Auto Workers against the hiring of the part-time workers had recently been settled, and the borough does have the right to hire the workers."That grievance process will ultimately cost the borough $13,610.50," Gursky said. "We could have gotten 1,700 hours of grass cutting and snow removal for that money. That's a lot of grass and a lot of snow."
