A Carbon County woman was sentenced on Tuesday to a county prison term on a drug charge.

Dora Jane Stoeckel, 40, of Palmerton, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve six to 23 months in prison on a charge of possession of a controlled substance followed by one year of probation. She previously pleaded to the charge.Stoeckel was arrested by state police at Hazleton vice unit on July 20, 2015. In an exchange for her plea, charges of possession with intent to deliver and related counts were dropped.Defense Attorney Gregory Lee Mousseau said his client was attempting to get help for a serious drug addiction problem. He asked the court to furlough her from the county prison if she can get placement in an inpatient rehabilitation facility.Stoeckel told the court, "I'm tired of being who I am." She said she turned to drugs after the untimely death of her husband.Nanovic said he would consider her furlough but with conditions that the inpatient program is approved, and that she must complete the program successfully. If not, any time spent in the program will not be credited against her prison term.Nanovic also ordered her to supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released from prison. She was given credit for 50 days spent in prison on the charge.
