Basketball players will be hitting the court for a young girl fighting illness this weekend.

The "Hoops for Emma" 3 on 3 coed tournament was organized by a 19-year-old who was inspired to do something for a little girl fighting Guillain-Barre syndrome.It will take place at Eurana Park in Weatherly at noon on Saturday. Registration begins at 11 a.m.Emma Heister, 10, returned home this week after receiving from treatment for Guillain-Barre, an autoimmune disease which affects the body's nerve cells.A 19-year-old Hazleton native, Chris Belles, attended a benefit for Heister last week and decided to set up the tournament."I wanted to get involved too and help out as much as I can," he said.Volunteers here and in other parts of the state have rallied around the Heister family.Belles knows the family's older daughter, and was inspired by the show of support for the young girl."She's a sweet girl. She likes to make other people her age smile and have fun with her friends," he said.The Heister family gave their thumbs-up to the tournament, and Belles invited them to attend as well.Entries in the tournament cost $30 per team.
