Scarecrow Time

This will be the sixth year of decorating our community with scarecrows. As usual businesses can decorate in a fashion that showcases their business. Private homes have many options for scarecrow design. Kindly have your scarecrow displayed for the entire month of October. This is not a contest.If a stand is needed, contact Brian Billig at the Palmerton Lumber Company to make arrangements. A fee will be charged. Happy decorating!Electronics recyclingThe Palmerton Borough Garage will host an electronics recycling event from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday. The event is sponsored by Responsible Recycling Services.Blood Drive resultsMiller-Keystone Blood Center's Palmerton community blood drive on Sept. 13 drew 64 registrants, and 68 units of blood were collected. This comfortably exceeded the goal of 54 units.The following donors reached gallon levels: Thomas Davies, 28 gallons; Kyle Ahner, 12 gallons; Dale Smith, 10 gallons; Alan Scott, 7 gallons; Bryon Eroh, 5 gallons, Nancy Koch and Brenda Mull, 1 gallon each. There were 4 first-time donors. This drive was sponsored by friends in memory of Janet Snyder.Each drive requires the efforts of a large number of volunteers, many of whom work "behind the scenes." The event is free, however donations of nonperishable canned goods will be accepted for the local food pantry.Activities include carnival games, bounce house, face painting, crafts, food and more.
