Scholastic Roundup: Results from March 27

Tamaqua and Northwestern posted wins in both baseball and softball on Tuesday.

The Blue Raiders downed Hamburg, while the Tigers topped Palisades.

In other action, Northern Lehigh’s Kaitlin Hoffman hit two homers in a softball victory over Lehighton, while Palmerton’s track team swept a tri-meet.

Other wins were recorded by Panther Valley’s baseball team and the Jim Thorpe tennis squad.

SOFTBALL

Northern Lehigh-Lehighton

Northern Lehigh rolled to a 19-5 non-league win over Lehighton.

Kaitlin Hoffman blasted two home runs — including a grand slam — for the Bulldogs and finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored. Olivia Toth went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Lauren Hoffman added three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs. Shayanna Williams also had three hits and drove in four runs.

Ryanne Hoffman went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Indians, while Heidi Greene scored two runs and drove in two. Rachel Serfass collected two hits.

Tamaqua-Hamburg

Tamaqua used the strength of a seven-run fifth inning to run away with a 11-2 non-league win over Hamburg.

Miranda Chinchar led the Blue Raiders with two singles, a triple, a run scored and an RBI, while Taylar Donnon (two singles, three runs scored) and Kaitlyn Stauffenberg (single, double, RBI) followed with multiple hits.

Jada Schellhammer finished with 10 strikeouts, one walk and only allowed two runs to earn the pitching victory.

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern used a big fourth inning to claim a 12-2 Colonial League win over Palisades.

The Tigers blew open a three-run game with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a three-run homer from Anna Akelaitis.

Emily Akelaitis finished with three hits and drove in two runs for Northwestern, while Sam Sisco scored four runs and Kayla Mitman knocked in three. The Tigers also received a triple and two RBIs from Molly Mitman.

Panther Valley-CMVT

Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech needed only five innings to score a 17-7 non-league victory over Panther Valley.

Chloe Miller was the lone Panther with multiple hits with a single and a double, while Megan Pascoe, Lydia Malaska and Kaleyia Polanco all added singles.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Hamburg

Tamaqua pounded out 13 hits en route to a 6-2 win over Hamburg.

Brady Moyer pitched five strong innings for the Blue Raiders, and Nate Boyle went 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Moyer also added two hits, as did Casey Rother, while John Burns drove in two runs.

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern had two big innings en route to an 11-1 Colonial League win in five innings over Palisades.

The Tigers’ Rafe Perich finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a single, double and three RBIs.

Mason Vogwill was the winning pitcher, recording nine strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Panther Valley-CMVT

Panther Valley posted a 10-8 win over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech in its season opener.

Tristan Blasko went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI for the Panthers.

PV’s Aaron Miller (three RBIs) and Jon Hafer also had two hits.

Salisbury

Palmerton gained a Colonial League sweep at Salisbury.

The Blue Bombers posted a 124.5-16.5 win over the Falcons and a 96-54 win over Pen Argyl in the boys meet. The Palmerton girls also earned victories over the Falcons (84-65) and the Green Knights (82-67).

Jacob Martinez (800, 1600), Jordan Nelson (110H, 300H) and Chris Fredericks (discus, javelin) recorded multiple wins for the Bomber boys, while Hanna Nesfeder (1600, 3200) and Madison Martinez (100H, 300H) had multiple firsts in the girls meet.
